The challenge
Landlords with shared electricity meters in Kenya were splitting bills by hand — reading sub-meters, guessing at KPLC's tiered rates, and fielding disputes from tenants who didn't trust the math.
What we built
- A Next.js web app where caretakers photograph sub-meters; Claude Vision extracts the reading automatically.
- A rate-parsing pipeline that reads true KPLC tariffs directly from official SMS bills, instead of relying on stale published rate cards.
- Automatic itemized invoice delivery to tenants over WhatsApp, showing usage, rate, and charge breakdown.
- A free tier for single-property landlords and custom pricing for multi-property portfolios.
The outcome
Stimafy is in beta across Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kisumu, replacing manual spreadsheet billing with a photo-in, invoice-out workflow — reported at ~98% meter-reading accuracy.
